The UFCW International Constitution and Local Union By-laws require that Officers of the Local Union be elected every four years. The current term of office expires on January 31, 2022.
The following positions on the United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 248P Executive Board will be nominated at meetings which will be held from Sunday December 12 to Tuesday December 14, 2021.

Vice-Presidents #1, #2, #3 – Maple Leaf McLeod Avenue
Vice-President #4 – Maple Leaf Distribution Centre (D.C.)
Vice-President #5 – Nipawin area Units
Vice-President #6 – Saskatchewan at large
The new term of office for the Executive Board positions listed above is four (4) years commencing February 1, 2022.
Eligibility to Run
As per Article 35(A) of the UFCW International Constitution:“An active member in the Local Union, who has been an active member in the Local Union, or who had been a member of another organization merged with the Local Union, for a continuous aggregate of at least 12 months immediately preceding the month in which nominations are held, or an active member in the Local Union who has been an active member in the International Union continuously for at least 24 months immediately preceding the month in which nominations are held, shall be eligible to hold any Local Union office, provided that said member maintains continuous active membership in the Local Union.”
Nominations
You may only be nominated for one position. There will be separate nominations for each position.
Nominations will take place at meetings as per the schedule listed below. You may attend any of the following meetings. A nominated person must be in attendance at the meeting to accept, or if a nominated person is not in attendance at the meeting when nominated, they must supply to the meeting, in writing, notice that they accept the nomination. No nominations by proxy, mail-in or electronic version shall be accepted.
The nominator and the nominated person must both be members in good standing as described in the Eligibility to Run section above. Union dues must be up to date prior to the start of the nomination process. Maintenance of active membership as outlined in the UFCW International Constitution, and Local Union Bylaws is the sole responsibility of the member.
Once a member has been nominated there is a form that has to be filled out and returned to confirm that the member wants to seek election and then the Election committee reviews the nomination for eligibility. Names of the nominated members will be posted in the workplace and on the UFCW Canada Local 248P website.

Elections
Voting will be by secret ballot at the polling stations indicated below. As per Article 35(2) of the International Constitution, any active member shall be eligible to vote in the Local Union’s election. Members can vote at any meeting/location they choose. Please be prepared to show a piece of ID upon arrival in order to vote.
If only one eligible member is nominated for a position, they will be considered elected by acclamation. The President and Secretary-Treasurer will be elected by a majority of votes cast. The Recorder and Vice-Presidents will be elected by plurality vote.

Ballots will be counted by the Election Chairperson and Election Judges at 5:00 pm on Friday, January 21 at the UFCW Canada Local 248P office (1638 Quebec Avenue).
